Licence Plate Recognition (LPR), also known as Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR), allows a camera to detect a licence plate, then recognise the charactors via Optical Character Recognition (OCR) typically trained with deep learning neutral networks. The charactors are then compared to a database listing in real-time for access control or traffic monitoring needs.
Typically examples for these cameras are:
- Stationary ANPR/LPR: A boom gate can be triggered to open automatically based on licence plates found in a database (e.g. ticketless parking, car parks or weighbridge management).
- Mobile ANPR/LPR: Law enforcement can use the system to detect cars breaking the law (e.g. unregistered vehicle), and automatically issue digital infringement notices (e-tickets).

We have much experience with boom gate control, inductive detector loops, security cameras, computers, computer networking, custom electronic design/development, programming, and more - we can develop a custom solution to integrate with your existing systems (e.g. Mandalay weighbridge database), or provide a standalone solution.
The ANPR/LPR cameras we use have the following chief features:
- 97% recognition rate of the number plate and the state it was registered.
- 100% vehicle detection rate using hardware trigger (e.g. inductive loop) - or 95%±9% vehicle detection rate if using software trigger during the day (93%±12% during night and day)
- Works at night and day.
- Works up to about 250km/h.
- Works up to about 20m.
- (Optional) speed detection via radar.
- Interface - XML via HTML - we typically write custom software to achieve your objectives (e.g. interface to a 3rd party database, email notices, or perhaps access control).
It should be noted that these cameras with built-in ANPR/LPR are not cheap - the cameras themselves start at about $3500. Then there is additional time & materials on top to install your solution.
